What I Create
"There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but nature more." Lord Byron
My ceramic work is inspired by natural surrounds, with a strong emphasis upon woodlands and forest inspirations. Pieces are textured using a variety of organic matter, such as pine cones, tree bark, seed pods, amongst others that are foraged from natural environments. I work with stoneware clay that I manipulate using a variety of traditional techniques: pinching, coiling and slab rolling. This slow process of hand building allows me to focus on subtle detail and give time to each piece. Works are carefully hand-painted with earthy glazes to give a natural, rustic aesthetic. Each piece or collection is named after places that holds special memories for me.
