This piece is part of the Full Moon Collection. It has been handmade using a dark, stoneware clay, slab-built and hand manipulated to create the form. The full moon shape has been textured using pine cones. The image has been hand carved in the clay. Hand-painted in a creamy, white tone, light speckles of the clay can been seen through the glaze. The colour of the glaze has been inspired by a walking trail running through a network of fields, between the towns of Leigh and Atherton, in the north of England. This was my favourite Sunday walk! The colour of this piece reminds me of the fading light over the fields of wild grasses, which have been bleached by the summer sun to reveal a soft, milky tone. The moon shape has been hand-painted to create speckles of different shades of blue and brown.
Each piece is individual, bearing the same colours and similarities, with subtle differences in glaze and size. The rim of the mug is not perfectly round, you could say "Perfect Imperfect" just how I like it!
