The Rivington mug is rustic, handsome and sturdy and a great feel in the hand. The perfect mug to drink your medicine of choice. This piece has been handmade using a dark, stoneware clay, slab-built and hand manipulated to create the form. Textured using gum nuts foraged from natural surrounds and hand-painted three times using a combination of different coloured glazes to produce a rich mixture of browns and flecks of blue. This piece has been named after an area called Rivington, in the north of England. The area is a mixture of grazing land, moorlands and hill summits. More interestingly though, it is a place of early Bronze Age settlements and the moment I saw the piece coming out of the kiln, I thought the colours were reminiscent of ancient times.
Each piece is individual, bearing the same colours and similarities, with subtle differences in glaze and size. The rim of the mug is not perfectly round, you could say "Perfect Imperfect" just how I like it! All items are food safe and dishwasher safe. Please remember that hand-washing is always kinder to your hand-crafted item.
