This piece has been handmade using an earthy, stoneware clay, slab-built and hand manipulated to create the form. Textured using foraged gum nuts and hand-painted in a blue/green colour, light speckles of the clay can been seen through the glaze. The Skiddaw platter set is versatile in its use: use as an entertaining platter or separately as a plate and bowl. This piece is named after Skiddaw Mountain in the Lake District National Park, its summit is the sixth highest in England. It is upon this mountain that my husband asked me to marry him! The top of this mountain is cold, rugged and pieces of Skiddaw slate are scattered about. The coldness and feelings of isolation, inspired the icy, blue colour of the glaze.
Each piece is individual, bearing the same colours and similarities, with subtle differences in glaze and size.
